Rafting is an exotic way to explore the typical
cross section of natural as well as ethno-cultural
heritage of the country. There are numerous
rivers in Nepal which offer excellent rafting
or canoeing experience. You can glide on calm
jade waters with magnificient scenery all about
or rush through roaring white rapids, in the
care of our expert river guides.
A Typical Day on the River: Normally
the first day of a river trip begins early morning
around 7 am. You will be driven to put-in point
of the river. After you reach the put-in point,
a safety briefing is given by your river guide.
You then start your raft trip for about 3 hours
before your lunch stop by the river side. After
a fulfilling lunch prepared by your raft crew,
the trip proceeds for another 2-3 hours before
your stop at a camp for the overnight or for
the drive back home if you take part in a day
trip. Below we have categorised different popular
river trips in Nepal. A detailed itinerary will
be provided to you upon request.
Karnali River Rafting
The Jewel of Middle West
River Grade 3-5
The
Karnali, Nepal's mightiest river, is arguably
the finest multi day river trip in Nepal, and
the classic Himalayan expedition. The Karnali's
headwaters come off of Mount Kailas in Tibet
and slices through the Himalayas in a series
of magnificent gorges and pristine forest. For
the eight days and 180 kilometers we won't see
a single sign of the modern world. It's one
of the last places in Nepal that you can see
old growth forest and have a real chance of
seeing Nepal's wildlife. Regardless of the month,
the Karnali always offers good, hard rapids
with miles of beautiful scenery and deep river
gorges.
Sunkoshi River Rafting
The River of Gold
River Grade 3-5
The Sun Kosi river rates as one of the worlds
ten best high water river expeditions. After
the monsoon the river is high and wild, and
definitely not for the faint-hearted. Whipped
foamy white where narrow gorges constrict the
river's flow the cataracts are long and powerful.
The warm waters of the Sun Kosi surge, snake
and wind for 270 km through small villages,
sandy beaches, and jungle.
Tamur Exporitory River
Rafting
Eastern Challenge
River Grade 4 -5
The
Tamur combines one of the best short Himalayan
treks, offering amazing mountain views, with
an exhilarating new river expedition. The trip
starts from Basantapur, where we trek through
ancient moss covered Rhododendron forests and
sunlit meadows. As we crest the 10,000 foot
pass above the sacred lake at Gupha Pokhara,
we are greeted by stunning views of the Kanchenjunga
massif, Makalu and Everest. At Dobhan three
tributaries of the Tamur join their forces,
combining the racing rivers of the high mountains
to the north. Steep canyon walls enclose the
river and the rapids are powerful and continuous.
In the middle section the river opens up and
there are beautiful white sandy beaches. The
last few days where the river turns back to
the west is phenomenal. Towering waves leap
skyward, with seemingly endless rapids surging
through steep canyon walls.
The Marsyangdi River
Rafting
The Raging River
River Grade 4-5
The Marsyangdi, literally translated as "Raging
River" in the local dialect, is another
very popular rafting destination in Nepal. The
short trek to the river is stunning, with great
views of the Manaslu and the Annapurnas ahead
of you the whole time. Following the Annapurna
circuit we wander through charming Gurung villages
and emerald fields of rice. Children play excitedly
along the trail as we pass, snow-capped Himalayan
giants surround us, and the champagne river
churns and bubbles below. For people who want
a longer trip that combines a great short trek
with intense whitewater, the Marsyangdi is without
a doubt the river to run.
The Bhote Kosi River
Rafting
The Tibetan River
River Grade 3-5
Just three hours away from Kathmandu, the Bhote
Kosi is without a doubt the most exciting thing
you can do in Nepal and quite possibly one of
the best two day rafting trips offered anywhere
in the world. The Bhote Koshi is a very steep
and very continuous mountain stream; a unique
combination of exceptionally fun and challenging
rapids without it ever getting past the point
of recreation. Emerald green fields are terraced
high above the river on precipitous slopes,
curious villagers lining suspension bridges
are amazed as we plunge through cascading waves
and chutes of foam.
The Trisuli River Rafting
Classic Monsoon Flows
River Grade 3-4
The
Trisuli is one of Nepal's most popular rafting
rivers due to its easy access from Kathmandu
and Pokhara and offers scenic valleys and impressive
gorges and exhilarating rapids. At most flows
the Trisuli is pretty mellow, but during the
monsoon months the Trisuli changes character
completely as huge runoffs make the river swell
and shear like an immense ribbon of churning
ocean. When the river is running high and wild,
there are hardly any rafters around, and rafting
the Trisuli is a big water blast. A two-day
trip starting at Bhareni and finishing at Gai
Ghat is a classic river experience. You run
all the good rapids, following the river through
it's middle stage; watch the river grow as its
tributaries join, marvel as it cuts its way
through impressive gorges, then leave it as
it spills over the lowlands.
