BHUTAN

The
Kingdom of Bhutan, or the Land of the Thunder
Dragon, is in the eastern Himalaya. Magnificent
mountains, lush fields, thick forests, traditional
lifestyle and a serene atmosphere are attractions
of Bhutan. Mountain peaks in the north reach
up to over 7,000 m, the highest point being
the Kula Kangri at 7,553 m. The southern part
of the country has a lower altitude Bhutan and
its people have largely lived a life of isolation
from the rest of the world. Western values have
little or no impact. The Bhutanese have succeeded
in maintaining their cultural and spiritual
heritage and belief that they live in the last
Shangri-La by strictly limitingThimpu is the
capital city of Bhutan. Its center of attraction
is the massive Tashichhodzong building, the
administrative and religious center of Bhutan.

Festivals : At various times of the
year, the annual festivals known as Tsechus

SIKKIM
Sikkim
is extremely beautiful destination tucked between
Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and Darjeeling in the Eastern
Himalayas. Mount Kanchenjunga, the third highest
mountain in the world, dominates this small
but beautiful land.
This once independent Kingdom was ruled by
the Chogyal dynasty until 1975, when following
popular support it became a state of India.
Sikkim has however retained much of its culture
and unique identity.
Containing over 150 lakes it ranges in altitude
from 200 m. to almost 8,000 m. and provides
extremely rich bio diversity. There have been
over 600 species of birds recorded here along
with over 4,000 species of flowering plants
including a huge variety of Orchids.
Sachem is rapidly gaining a reputation as a
Botanist's paradise and along with the introduction
of eco-tourism, including serious birding, the
region has at last begun to focus on enterprise-based
conservation which we are keen to support.
