THE ANNAPURNA SANCTUARY
TREK
Grade: 3
The longer variant of this trek starts with the
Ghorepani trail reaching 2,750m.before turning
east and climbing through rhododendron and pine
forest and dropping down into the Modi River Valley.
The trail then turns north towards the Annapurna
Sanctuary. Annapurna, and the great Dhaulagiri
stand like mighty protectors of the Kali Gandaki
valley.
DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 01: Kathmandu - Pokhara
Fly or drive to Pokhara (200km/7 hours) from Kathmandu.
Remaining day at leisure. Overnight Hotel.
DAY 02: Pokhara - Tirkhedhunga (1491m.)
Early morning drive to Nayapul (42km/1.5 hr).
Start trek along level trail to reach Sudami for
Lunch. After lunch the trail climbs steadily up
the side of the valley, to reach Tirekhedhunga
for the overnight.
DAY 03: Tirkhedhunga - Ghorepani (2855m.)
From Tirkhedhunga the trail ascends a steep stone
staircase to the large Magar village Ulleri at
2070m. and a final climb to Nangethanti for lunch.
After lunch there is about one hour climb to Ghorepani
for overnight.
DAY 04: Ghorepani - Poon hill - Tadapani(2540m.)
An early climb to Poon Hill (3195m) which provides
unobstructed views and sunrise over the high Himalayas.
After sunrise, return to camp for breakfast. From
Ghorepani the trail climbs south through deep
forests to finally emerge on a grassy knoil which
offers good mountain views and continues on to
Banthanti for lunch. From Banthanti, the trail
follows the stream down to a bridge where the
trails start climbing, entering a field of cane,
making some ups and downs past to a vantage point
Tadapani for the overnight.
DAY 05: Tadapani - Chhomrung
From Tadapani, the trail passes through rhododendron,
oak forests and stops at Chhomrung for overnight
which provides great views of Annapurna South
and Machhapuchhare or Fishtail.
DAY 06: Chhomrung - Dovan
The trail descends on a stone staircase crossing
the Chhomrung khola and passes through rhododendron
and oak forests. The trail then descends a long
steep stone staircase into deep bamboo and rhododendron
forests, then passes through muddy trail to Bamboo
for Lunch. From Bamboo the trail climbs steeply
through stands of bamboo, occasionally dropping
slightly to cross the tributary streams to reach
Dovan for the overnight stop.
DAY
07: Dovan - Annapurna Base Camp
From Dovan the trail passes high above the river.to
reach Himalaya Hotel at 2680m. for lunch and then
continues on to reach Annapurna Base Camp for
the overnight stop.
DAY 08: Annapurna Base Camp - Bamboo
An early morning climb to view point for the spectacular
sunrise over the himalayan panorama. Return back
for breakfast and head back the same way to Bamboo
for the overnight stop.
DAY 09: Bamboo - Chhomrung
From Bamboo, the trail descends a long steep stone
staircase the bamboo and rhododendrons forest
to reach Kuldi at 2300 metres. The trail continues
through rhododendron forests down to Sinuwa at
2250 metres for lunch. From Sinuwa the trail is
down hill till Modi Khola. The trail then crosses
the river climbs up for half an hour to reach
Chhomrung for the overnight stop.
DAY 10: Chomrung - Landrung
The trail today goes downhill to Hot Spring through
village and terraces. The trail is very easy after
Hot Spring to reach Nayapul for lunch. After lunch
cross the New Bridge and climb to Landrung for
the overnight stop.
DAY 11: Landrung- Dhampus
From Landrung, It's an easy walk past fields,
a school and some houses and descends to Tolka
a small settlement at 1710 metres. The trail climbs
through a forest and crosses a stream on a suspension
bridge at 1690 metres and climbs upto reach Bichok
(also known as Bheri Kharka). The trail climbs
through forests to a clearing on the top of the
hill to reach Deurali at 2010 metres, for lunch.
From Deurali the trail is downhill to Dhampus
at 1580 metres for the overnight stop.
DAY 12: Dhampus- Pokhara
From Dhampus, the trail continues downhill for
two hours through the village to Phedi. From Phedi,
drive back to Pokhara with overnight stay in hotel.
